Managed Valkey on Hetzner and UpCloud
BasePilot provisions and operates Valkey, the open-source fork of Redis, on the European cloud providers Hetzner and UpCloud, in your own cloud account or on your own servers, from Germany. Clients written for Redis connect with a rediss:// URL. The Valkey engine is currently offered as a beta.
Operated from Germany. Billed per node and hour. No minimum term.

What managed Valkey includes
Specific to Valkey. Monitoring, maintenance windows, access control and hourly billing come with every cluster.
Works with Redis clients
Valkey speaks the Redis protocol, so existing client libraries and tools connect to it over TLS.
Replication and failover
Replicas follow the primary over the private network. If the primary fails, BasePilot promotes the replica holding the most data and moves the cluster's address to it.
Durable by default
The append-only file and regular snapshots are both switched on, so data survives a restart.
Access control lists
Users are ACL entries with admin, read-write or read-only rights. Changes take effect on every node without a restart.
Key browser
The studio lists keys grouped by prefix with their type, TTL and size, and runs commands the way valkey-cli does.
Snapshot backups
Scheduled RDB snapshots are uploaded to object storage and can be restored into a new cluster.
Built and operated in Europe
BasePilot is a German service on European infrastructure. You decide in which data centre each cluster runs.
- Operator in Germany
- BasePilot is developed and operated in Erfurt, Germany. Contracts are governed by German law.
- European cloud providers
- The servers come from Hetzner (Germany) and UpCloud (Finland). You choose the data centre location for every cluster yourself, for example in Germany or Finland.
- Data processing under the GDPR
- We process the data in your databases solely on your behalf and on your instructions. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is available on request.
- Analytics only with consent
- This website measures visits only if you agree; without your consent it sets no cookies. The console uses only technically necessary cookies.
Questions about managed Valkey
Short answers on versions, operation and limits.
- Which Valkey versions does BasePilot offer?
- Valkey 8, 7. New clusters use Valkey 8 by default.
- Why Valkey and not Redis?
- Valkey is the BSD-licensed, community-maintained fork of Redis under the Linux Foundation. It keeps the Redis protocol and the commands of open-source Redis 7.2.
- Can I use several databases?
- Yes, the numbered databases 0 to 15. Users are not limited to single databases: every user can access every key.
- Does managed Valkey support point-in-time restore?
- Not at present. A restore returns to the moment of a snapshot and always creates a new cluster.
- What does beta mean for Valkey?
- The Valkey engine is provided for evaluation: it may still contain defects and may change. We recommend not using it for business-critical data yet.
