Managed libSQL on Hetzner and UpCloud
BasePilot provisions and operates libSQL, the open-source SQLite-compatible database server, on the European cloud providers Hetzner and UpCloud, in your own cloud account or on your own servers, from Germany. Applications connect over HTTPS with access tokens.
Operated from Germany. Billed per node and hour. No minimum term.

What managed libSQL includes
Specific to libSQL. Monitoring, maintenance windows, access control and hourly billing come with every cluster.
SQLite-compatible, reachable over HTTPS
libSQL is a fork of SQLite with a server in front. Clusters listen on port 443, and applications use the libSQL client libraries with a libsql:// URL.
One address per database
Create and drop databases in the console. Each one is reached at its own hostname, the database name in front of the cluster's address.
Access tokens instead of passwords
Users are signed tokens, read-only or read-write, for all databases or for selected ones. Changing a user's access issues a new token.
Read replicas and failover
Replicas answer reads locally and forward writes to the primary. If the primary fails, BasePilot promotes a replica and rebuilds the failed node.
Continuous backups, point-in-time restore
Changes are streamed to object storage as they are written. Restore into a new cluster from a backup or to a point in time.
Publicly trusted certificate
By default clients verify the server with the cluster's own certificate authority. A Let's Encrypt certificate can be switched on per cluster for clients that cannot install one.
Built and operated in Europe
BasePilot is a German service on European infrastructure. You decide in which data centre each cluster runs.
- Operator in Germany
- BasePilot is developed and operated in Erfurt, Germany. Contracts are governed by German law.
- European cloud providers
- The servers come from Hetzner (Germany) and UpCloud (Finland). You choose the data centre location for every cluster yourself, for example in Germany or Finland.
- Data processing under the GDPR
- We process the data in your databases solely on your behalf and on your instructions. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is available on request.
- Analytics only with consent
- This website measures visits only if you agree; without your consent it sets no cookies. The console uses only technically necessary cookies.
Questions about managed libSQL
Short answers on versions, operation and limits.
- Which libSQL versions does BasePilot offer?
- libSQL 0.24. New clusters use libSQL server 0.24 by default.
- Does it work with the libSQL client libraries?
- Yes. Clusters run the open-source libSQL server (sqld) and are used with the regular libSQL client libraries and an access token.
- Are there SQL users or schemas?
- No. Access is granted through tokens, and each database is separate.
- How do backups work for libSQL?
- Every database is replicated to object storage continuously. A scheduled backup starts a new generation, and the number of backups you keep applies to each database.

BasePilot operates these engines in the same way.
