Managed MariaDB on Hetzner and UpCloud
BasePilot provisions and operates MariaDB clusters on the European cloud providers Hetzner and UpCloud, in your own cloud account or on your own servers, from Germany.

What managed MariaDB includes
Specific to MariaDB. Monitoring, maintenance windows, access control and hourly billing come with every cluster.
Replication with global transaction IDs
Replicas load a consistent dump of the primary and then follow it using MariaDB's global transaction IDs. In a failover the most advanced replica becomes the new primary and the others are re-pointed.
Encrypted connections only
TLS is required for every TCP connection. Clients verify the server with the cluster's own certificate authority or with a certificate you supply.
Configuration matched to the size
Buffer pool and connection limit follow the memory of the node, so a larger size is used without manual tuning.
Accounts per database
Create SQL accounts that may read, read and write, or administer, across all databases or only the ones you select.
Dumps with accounts included
Scheduled backups cover every database with its routines, events and triggers as well as the user accounts, and can be restored into a new cluster.
Studio for SQL
Browse tables and run statements in the browser, read-only by default.
Built and operated in Europe
BasePilot is a German service on European infrastructure. You decide in which data centre each cluster runs.
- Operator in Germany
- BasePilot is developed and operated in Erfurt, Germany. Contracts are governed by German law.
- European cloud providers
- The servers come from Hetzner (Germany) and UpCloud (Finland). You choose the data centre location for every cluster yourself, for example in Germany or Finland.
- Data processing under the GDPR
- We process the data in your databases solely on your behalf and on your instructions. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is available on request.
- Analytics only with consent

Questions about managed MariaDB
Short answers on versions, operation and limits.
- Which MariaDB versions does BasePilot offer?
- MariaDB 11.4, 10.11. New clusters use MariaDB 11.4 LTS by default.
- MySQL or MariaDB: which should I choose?
- BasePilot operates both in the same way, with the same replication, failover, TLS, user management and backups. Choose the one your application is developed and tested against.
- Does managed MariaDB support point-in-time restore?
- Not at present. A restore returns to the moment of a scheduled dump and always creates a new cluster. Point-in-time restore is available for PostgreSQL and libSQL.
Other engines
BasePilot operates these engines in the same way.
