# BasePilot: European managed databases, provisioned in minutes.

> Managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Valkey, libSQL and NATS from a German provider: on Hetzner, UpCloud or your own servers, billed by the hour.

BasePilot provisions and operates PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Valkey, libSQL and NATS clusters on the European cloud providers Hetzner and UpCloud, in your own cloud account or on your own servers. Encrypted connections, replication, backups and monitoring are built in. Operated from Germany. Billed per node and hour. No minimum term.

## What BasePilot takes care of

The operational work a production database requires is in place from the first minute, and remains under your control.

- **Encrypted connections:** TLS is mandatory. Every cluster receives its own certificate authority so clients can verify the server; alternatively, you supply your own certificate.
- **Encryption at rest:** As an add-on, a cluster keeps its data directory and credentials on a LUKS2 volume encrypted with AES-256. Nothing readable is left on the server's disk or in the provider's snapshots, and the volume is unlocked automatically after a restart.
- **Replication and automatic failover:** Run up to three nodes per cluster. If the primary becomes unavailable, BasePilot promotes a replica and rebuilds the failed node.
- **Backups and restore:** Scheduled backups are written to object storage at the interval and retention you define, and can be restored into a new cluster. PostgreSQL and libSQL also restore to any point in time.
- **Query studio:** Browse and edit data, run queries, and import or export tables directly in the browser, without installing a client.
- **Monitoring and notifications:** Connections, storage, throughput and replication lag are recorded every minute. Your team is notified by email when a cluster is degraded or a backup fails.
- **Updates in your maintenance window:** Minor releases and host patches are applied node by node within the window you choose. PostgreSQL major versions are upgraded using a blue-green procedure.
- **Access control:** Restrict each cluster to permitted IP addresses, manage database users centrally and assign roles within your organization. Two-factor authentication and passkeys are available for every account.
- **Hourly billing:** Usage is charged per node and hour against prepaid credit, itemized per cluster. You are notified in good time before your credit runs out.

## Supported database engines

PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and libSQL are generally available. The remaining engines are offered as a beta.

## You decide where your databases run

Every cluster is operated the same way, regardless of who owns the servers.

- **Provided by BasePilot:** We provide the servers on Hetzner Cloud or UpCloud in the region you select. Infrastructure and operation are billed together.
- **Your own cloud account:** Connect your Hetzner Cloud or UpCloud account with an API token. The servers run in your account and are billed to you by the provider; BasePilot charges a service fee for operating them.
- **Your own servers:** Add existing Ubuntu servers over SSH. BasePilot installs the database, links the nodes through an encrypted WireGuard network and operates them like any other cluster.

## Built and operated in Europe

BasePilot is a German service on European infrastructure. You decide in which data centre each cluster runs.

- **Operator in Germany:** BasePilot is developed and operated in Erfurt, Germany. Contracts are governed by German law.
- **European cloud providers:** The servers come from Hetzner (Germany) and UpCloud (Finland). You choose the data centre location for every cluster yourself, for example in Germany or Finland.
- **Data processing under the GDPR:** We process the data in your databases solely on your behalf and on your instructions. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is available on request.
- **Analytics only with consent:** This website measures visits only if you agree; without your consent it sets no cookies. The console uses only technically necessary cookies.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where do my databases run?

Every cluster runs in the data centre you select when you create it: on servers from Hetzner (Germany) or UpCloud (Finland), in your own cloud account or on your own servers.

### Which database engines does BasePilot support?

PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Valkey, libSQL and NATS. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and libSQL are generally available. The remaining engines are offered as a beta.

### Can I use my own Hetzner or UpCloud account, or my own servers?

Yes. Connect your Hetzner Cloud or UpCloud account with an API token: the servers run in your account and are billed to you by the provider, and BasePilot charges a service fee for operating them. Existing Ubuntu servers are added over SSH and operated like any other cluster.

### How is BasePilot billed?

Per node and hour against prepaid credit, itemized per cluster. There is no minimum term; you can delete a cluster at any time.

### What happens when a node fails?

In a cluster with several nodes, BasePilot promotes a replica when the primary becomes unavailable and rebuilds the failed node. A cluster can have up to three nodes.

### Which engines support point-in-time restore?

PostgreSQL and libSQL can be restored to any point in time. Scheduled backups are written to object storage and can be restored into a new cluster.

### Is a data processing agreement (DPA) available?

Yes. Where your databases contain personal data, BasePilot acts as your processor under Art. 28 GDPR and provides the data processing agreement on request.
